As we come to the end of 2021, we want to reflect on what an exceptional year it has been for us here at ddroidd. It was our first year as a fully independent company, and wow what a first year it has been!
We know that we have a great team of experts that deliver outstanding results for our clients, but in 2021 we officially became an award-winning team.
We won the Environmental Champion category in Prolific North’s Champion Awards for our efforts towards sustainable technology, including our pioneering A+++ software framework.

Our Co-founder and Managing Director, Melissa Hendry, was then named in Computer Weekly’s long list of top 50 most influential women in UK tech.
The growth, results and achievements of ddroidd were then acknowledged at Prolific North’s Tech Awards where we scooped the Tech Start-Up of the Year award! Judges said:
“A truly wonderful first year for the company, demonstrating success in both an innovative capacity and addressing immediate client concerns. Their ability to work over boarders is highly commendable as are their financials."
“A very strong entry with a crucial value-add for their customers. Many companies are highlighting energy efficiency in the digital stack and within CDNs, and yet ddroidd have been able to carve out a brand position for themselves which is represented by real growth.”
“A fresh and forward-thinking approach to digital platform building. The education piece around sustainability is of great importance and very much of the moment. They look to be disrupting what seems to be a saturated market and their ambitiousness looks to be very much well-founded with the current execution of their objectives!"
Then to round off the year, we placed 26th in TechRound’s Top 100 UK Tech Start-Ups, celebrating the UK’s most innovative start-up and tech companies.
Judges said:
“With just over 3,000 applications this year, we were all blown away by the quality of entries including start-ups that operate in multiple countries and have raised vast amounts through funding rounds."
“There was a significant number of applications with a sustainability focus, from measuring and reducing carbon footprints, to recycling, electric charging and saving on waste and plastic. The number of sustainable start-ups really stood out this year.”
We hope to further add to our trophy cabinet in 2022!
In November, we officially hit our first-year milestone. When we set out, we had ambitious targets to turnover £3m and become a team of 100. Not only did we exceed our turnover target, but we also reached our goal and became a team of 100 experts.
As well as our offices in Leeds and Cluj-Napoca, we recently opened a second Romanian office in Iași, which is now home to 10 of our experts and growing.
Over the last 12 months, we have worked with clients in the UK and internationally, and secured new contracts with clients and agency partners in the UK, Ireland, Holland, Denmark, Romania, Germany and the US.
As we approach the end of a very successful year for us here at ddroidd, we’re excited about what 2022 may bring. We have, of course, put ambitious targets in place to turnover £5m and double in size. But, we have also set ourselves a goal to become an employer of choice. We have an exceptional team of talented specialists, and we want to continue building on that, giving them exciting projects to work on, to achieve results that deliver for our clients.
In 2022, we will also continue our mission to educate on sustainable technology and demonstrate how it can save money and reduce carbon emissions at the same time.
So, from all of us here at ddroidd, thank you for a wonderful 2021, and we look forward to a bigger, brighter and bolder 2022.
