Pioneering a New Way:

myenergi is an award-winning British designer and manufacturer of renewable energy products that increase the self-consumption of green energy. Its zappi product was one of the world’s first solar and wind compatible electric car chargers. The company’s vision to optimise renewable energy use at home, is underpinned by industry-leading technology that enables customers to take control of and manage their eco smart products in a user-friendly way.
myenergi appointed ddroidd in 2020 as a development partner to undertake various application development projects within its customer facing platform. data dashboards and analytics engine.
Technical Partner of Choice:
As myenergi’s long-term technical partner, ddroidd delivers consultation, application management and software development, as well as automated and manual testing, for the company’s myaccount portal, mobile app, admin console and data server.
Project Delivery 1

Handling energy tariffs

The UK has multiple tariff types available for home consumers. myenergi collects these tariff details from energy suppliers, and displays them within the myaccount portal using various features built and managed by ddroidd:

APIs

For the energy providers that allow this, there is a daily job that imports the data into the database to display the users’ available tariffs for the next 24-hours.

User input

Customers have a dedicated section in the myaccount feature where they can input multiple tariff periods, as per their contract, to determine their usage and display their budget.

Project Delivery 2

Tariff scheduler

Based on the variable energy tariffs, an algorithmic scheduler provides suggestions for users on the best time to charge their car and heat the water in their tanks. Additionally, users can create custom schedules for their myenergi devices, such as:

Budget boosts

“charge my car/heat my water tank when the price is below x pence/hour”

Scheduled charge

“charge my car/heat my water tank every x days from 1 o’clock to 2 o’clock”

Single charge

“charge my car/heat my water tank one time on TUE at 2PM”

Project Delivery 3

Energy usage graphics

A feature present both in the app and myaccount allows users to visualise:

1. How much energy they’ve imported from the grid

2. How much energy they exported to the grid

3. How much energy they’ve consumed from their renewable sources

The data can be checked for multiple intervals: today, yesterday, this week. Users can also check this data per device for these intervals.

Results achieved:
  • Team growth - from 6 people in May 2020 to 24 in December 2022

  • Increased involvement - from supporting 1 application in May 2020 to supporting 3 apps in December 2022

  • Major infrastructure transformation - changed to a serverless docker infrastructure in September 2022

  • Over 200,000 connected devices online in December 2022

  • Notable features delivered - Extended Warranty, virtual hub (eddi and zappi), improved the graphing engine to ensure the same source of truth for app and myaccount, charge logs, location sharing, social login, scheduling engine

  • Very strong relationship built across the last almost 3 years - acting as a partner and consultant, rather than an external vendor
