About U-Explore:

U-Explore is an EdTech company specialising in careers guidance for young people in schools and colleges. With a passion for ensuring every young person has access to the information, advice and opportunities to help shape their future, the company has a rapidly expanding network of UK schools, colleges, students, teachers and advisors.
U-Explore’s mission is to inspire, engage and connect young people with the opportunities that are right for them. Start is U-Explore’s digital platform, which plays a big role in achieving the company’s mission by engaging its users and connecting the various stakeholders.
Making a ‘Start’ on improving performance:
U-Explore was looking for a new technical partner to implement a number of new features, increase performance and user engagement, as well as ongoing application management of its digital platform, Start.
Project Delivery 1

Single sign on

The platform did have the option for a single sign on for users, however, it wasn’t compatible with the onboarding process and often didn’t work as expected. ddroidd’s development team created an entire new logic and rewrote the code to ensure the relevant platforms ‘talked’ to each other to create an efficient single sign on process.

Project Delivery 2

Automatic course updates

The Start platform showcases current courses available for young people, which are regularly updated. Keeping this area of the platform up to date could be time consuming, especially with more than a hundred thousand courses live at one time.

ddroidd implemented a feature that enabled U-Explore to automatically update the course directory with the data it acquires from the UK Department of Education’s website, saving valuable time and creating efficiency for the team.

Project Delivery 3

Improved user experience for special needs users

U-Explore wanted to ensure its platform was accessible to everyone and improve the user experience for those with special needs that may find it difficult reading the website in its previous format. ddroidd built a simpler, more intuitive and user-friendly interface, including adding the UserWay plug-in that allows users to optionally change the colours and sizes of the text to make it more readable for their needs.

Project Delivery 4

More engaging user experience

As part of the journey young people take on the Start platform, information is gathered and summarised throughout the process to give a sense of progress. ddroidd has created a more visual interface, including the ability to summarise at a high level the user’s own progress through more detailed activities on easily accessible visual ‘cards’. As part of this, ddroidd also developed a number of tools for U-Explore to reuse templated formats of surveys and questionnaires that can be applied to different use cases. This has increased the speed of building new use cases significantly.

Project outcome:

U-Explore’s Start platform not only performs better but the user experience has improved through the updates and new features. ddroidd continues to work with U-Explore as its technical partner of choice, maintaining the site through ongoing application management support services.
